Cricket Scrapbooking

Hey, Kelli here,

I started this Cricket Scrapbooking Blog to share my experience with the cricut cutting machine. I know a lot of people use the spelling cricket scrapbooking, as I originally did, so that’s why I chose this website name. It’s been about 7 months since I purchased the cricut machine so let me tell you about the why I decided to purchase it and the things that helped me create fantastic scrapbooking projects.

My First Experience “So Jealous”

My sister invited me over for a weekend scrapbooking project that was for our best friends baby shower.   My sister surprised me with the cricket cutting machine. I was so jealous, but happy that we could create a scrapbook together.

Several of our other friends showed up for the weekend. Our friend Lilly brought brought over her Cricut also, so we could create even more designs. She plugged up, put in the baby shower font cartridge and we were ready to cut!  The machine does cut velum and cardstock very, very well. Our scrapbooking project was so amazing when finished. It did help so much to have Lily over to give up some great tips on using her scrapbooking machine….I was sold. After she showed she showed us how quickly it worked… I had to have my very own!

That’s what I did.  After purchasing my very own cricut I wanted to let you know how happy I personally am. Beside the fact that I’m creating fantastic scrapbooks, I’m saving a ton of money because I don’t have to purchase frame designs, expensive letters or just about anything that I desire to use in my scrapbooking project. I just cut it out.  Once I pick my scrapbook papers I also don’t have to spend time purchasing the letters, frames or other design elements.  I just sit and create fabulous scrapbooks.

Also I wanted to mention a couple more things. The machine only weighs about 7 lbs so it’s easy to cary. Also there are many additional theme catridges with fonts and frames you can purchase when the mood strikes you. Two extra catridges I that I did purchase and would recommend are ”Summer in Paris” and “Easter”.  There are many more that I hope to get soon, but those two worked well for my scapbook projects.

The assortment of scrapbook album designs has also flourished together with the growth of scrapbooking’s popularity. Plain cover scrapbook albums now come in many colors. Some scrapbook albums may have a military-themed cover, while others might have a fun cartoonish theme, with popular cartoon characters embellished on the cover. Tropical scrapbook albums, which you might prefer for your Hawaii honeymoon, would be gorgeous in scrapbook albums with a vivid red or blue Hibiscus-patterned cloth cover.

Once you have selected the scrapbook album, you now have to arrange the pictures and memorabilia you will apply. Pay attention to the subject matter of each piece in addition to the colors. Honeymoon scrapbook albums already have an overall theme ? the honeymoon! Your subsequent step will be to settle on sub-themes for each 2-page spread. For example, you might have a theme of your arrival at Hawaii, with approach photos of the island from the air. This theme could also include photos taken upon landing.

Outline the rest of your photos, deciding on a subject matter for each spread. You may want some legroom for notes and other elements you would like to insert later, so don’t give in to the temptation of packing your scrapbook pages with photos. You might also decide to add a bit of torn paper underneath the photos to set them off from the backdrop. On some pages, you may fancy placing a paper frame around the photos.

My First Srapbooking Project

Family Scrapbook Album

Since all of my early famly photos are in sepia I wanted to keep the look of the album old style as far as paper selection.  My cricket machine also had some old style catridge that helped me a lot.

Finally I added over 16 pages of color photos of my immediate family by  using more vibrant color papers and styles to help bring us to the end of the album.
